Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By using Adair County Criminal History, you agree to the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email or contact submission long enough to respond and manage the communication. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server receives routine technical details about the visit:

  • Timestamps for each page view
  • The referring website, when one is provided
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser type and version
  • The IP address assigned to the device

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure which pages receive traffic and how visitors move through the site. Analytics providers combine this usage data into reports. A browser can reject or remove cookies, although doing so may change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests
  • Routing a search request to the selected partner service
  • Measuring which pages are useful and which need improvement
  • Operating the site and maintaining load speed

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Adair County Criminal History does not store, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records maintained by the Adair County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is never compiled into a consumer report or a file about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy, including its rules for retention and sharing. We do not control those practices. Read the applicable partner policy before running a search.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Sheriff's Office, Iowa court portals, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you follow one, the destination's privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.

Some advertising companies may use cross-site activity to select ads. That tracking occurs through their systems and is subject to their policies.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to these limited recipients:

  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
  • Advertising networks that place ads on the site
  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners that process a query you choose to submit

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used to protect collected data. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied personal information, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights can depend on where a visitor lives. Iowa Code chapters 22 and 692 govern official public records and criminal-history dissemination, but do not turn private website traffic data into a county or DCI record. You may still ask us to:

  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
  • Delete data associated with you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Provide a copy of personal information we retain about you
